National Immigration Forum

Field & Constituencies Intern

This summer I interned with the National Immigration Forum in Washington, DC. The Forum is a nonprofit that works to form relationships with allies across the political spectrum to advance constructive and compassionate immigration reform. Through advocacy and policy the Forum stays up to date on current immigration issues to help immigrants, refugees, and constituents build coalitions and stay informed.

During the Field & Constituencies Internship, I have worked closely with the Bibles, Badges, and Business Immigration Reform (BBB) team. The BBB team connects key constituencies and policymakers in faith, law enforcement, national security, and businesses to form a consensus on practical immigration reform. In this role I have had the opportunity to stay up to date on immigration issues at the local, state, and federal level.

Outreach

As the Field & and Constituencies Intern, I worked closely with the Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force (LEITF), a task force made up of Sheriff’s and Chief’s of Police across the nation committed to build trust with immigrant communities, and the Council on National Security and Immigration (CNSI), a council made up of former and current leaders from Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) concerned with the implications unpractical immigration reform may have on national security. In this role, I conducted research on potential new members for the LEITF and CNSI and drafted outreach emails for potential candidates.

Communications

As part the of the LEITF team, I worked on highlighting the work of the task force through their digital presence on their website, social medias accounts, and internal communications. I drafted and published blogs on the LEITF website, created posts for the Twitter account, kept a current list of new media hits from the team and members of the task force, and drafted the weekly Immigration Policy and Media Coverage Updates email.
